Social Class and Cultural Diversity

A lot of United States Citizen throw huge fits about the illegal immigration going on. But have you ever thought about how hard it must be for them to come here first of all and what they must go through to get here?
A South American family scenario:
Dad us offered a job in United states and is told that in 6 months he will provide enough to be able to send for his family to come live with him. So him and his wife use up all their savings to send the Dad over to the United States to work. It's about $4,000 for one person to cross the border. Dad gets a job and is working minimum wage. Six months go by, then a year, then two years until finally Dad has enough to send for his family. Meanwhile back in Mexico, Mom has had to go to work to help support the family, and the 17 year old son does as well. While this is going on, their two daughters ages 10 and 13 find the support they need through friends of all kinds. Often friends who are a really bad influence. Grandparents and Aunts and Uncles step in to try to make this transition easier, but in actuality make it more difficult in some ways. By the time Dad has saved up enough money for his family to join him in the United States, the children don't want to leave because they have made friends where they are at and don't really know their Dad at all. Mom has taken over the Father role which is difficult in more ways than just work life.
The family is now nonfunctional once again till everyone gets used to this way of life. Even though they may be back together now they have to get used to the way they are treated around a highly white area. Even if the white community doesn't mean to they criticize and generalize their bad experiences with these kind of people to everyone who has Hispanic decent. The family must now relearn culture, language, and the way of life to fit in at all.
So before you judge think about maybe everything they went through trying to make life better for their whole family. What sacrifices would you make to makes things better for your family?
